Jeremiah 5:31
Jer 5:30 An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land:
Jer 5:31 the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes?
"My people love to have it so". Often, the point of comfort, the arrangement we like, will not be pleasant in the end. Do our preachers tickle our ears with pleasant but false doctrine? Do our elders do what seems humanly wise and not what God says to do? The end may not be as pleasant...
II Timothy 3:16,17
II Peter 1:20, 21 all scripture is... (two refrences linked with one note)
II Tim 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
II Tim 3:17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
II Pet 1:19 And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,
II Pet 1:20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation.
II Pet 1:21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Notes: Peter is, in my opinion here talking about the prophetic word given to the apostles. Their prophecies are scripture, and are given by the Holy Spirit.
Paul, in second Timothy, is talking about the Hebrew Scriptures (the old testament), and saying that it is profitable for a believer, for instruction, reproof, etc. Do we marginalize the O.T. because we have doctrines that say it's no longer applicable in any real way?
I Cor 2:13 - Wisdom
I Cor 2:13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
Interesting that those who are taught are already spiritual, and so they are taught spiritual truths. The true wisdom here is from the Spirit and must be in great contrast to the human wisdom.
