We've had some visitors to the cat food bowls lately (other than the chickens, who absolutely love cat food).

Here's one...

This guy, after L had gone to bed as I was getting ready, I saw him outside our back door.  I pounded on the door a bit to get him to leave.  He did, very briefly but he came right back.  At that point, I thought "L should see this!" so I woke her up, and got the camera.  The glass is very dirty, and also caused quite a bit of a glare, and you can't really see how cute he is.  When I opened the door, he took off fast.  I've also seen another one around... but he looked quite different from this guy.

We also have had opussums.  A few nights ago, I heard something and look out and there was a young possum.  I went to get my gun (20 ga. shotgun) and there were two possums.  The took off running when I opened the door, but I got one of them.  I think the cat thought I was shooting at him too...  he ran fast!

Well, today, Lord willing, we get a dog.  It's a Sheltie and hopefully will protect our chickens and prevent some of these critters from eating the cats' food.  We'll see.  I'm not excited about having a dog, though I think L and the kids are pretty excited...
