You know about the Roman Polanski case, or you've had your TV off and not surfed for news on the web.  Which wouldn't be a bad idea...  30-some years ago, renowned director Roman Polanski drugged and raped a 13 year old girl.  He fled the country before his sentencing, and we are now asking the Swiss to extradite him to the U.S. for a new round of legal stuff.

There's a move by the 'elite' (whoever they are) to not have him extradited, and probably to drop charges, as the victim, Samantha Geimer has asked for Polanski to be forgiven, and for herself and her family to be left alone.

"I know it wasn't rape-rape. It was something else but I don't believe it was rape-rape." --Whoopi Goldberg on "The View."

"Whatever you think about the so-called crime, Polanski has served his time." --Harvey Weinstein editorializing in the Independent.

Over a hundred directors and hollywood stars have come out in support of Polanski...  here's some facts about the case, from www.thesmokinggun.com:

Two weeks after Polanski plied her with Champagne and a Quaalude, Samantha Gailey appeared before an L.A. grand jury and recalled Polanski's predatory behavior in a Mulholland Canyon home owned by Jack Nicholson.

The teenager's troubling--and contemporaneous--account of her abuse at Polanski's hands begins with her posing twice for topless photos that the director said were for French Vogue. The girl then told prosecutors how Polanski directed her to, "Take off your underwear" and enter the Jacuzzi, where he photographed her naked. Soon, the director, who was then 43, joined her in the hot tub. He also wasn't wearing any clothes and, according to Gailey's testimony, wrapped his hands around the child's waist.

The girl testified that she left the Jacuzzi and entered a bedroom in Nicholson's home, where Polanski sat down beside her and kissed the teen, despite her demands that he "keep away." According to Gailey, Polanski then performed a sex act on her and later "started to have intercourse with me." At one point, according to Gailey's testimony, Polanski asked the 13-year-old if she was "on the pill," and "When did you last have your period?" Polanski then asked her, Gailey recalled, "Would you want me to go in through your back?" before he "put his penis in my butt." Asked why she did not more forcefully resist Polanski, the teenager told Deputy D.A. Roger Gunson, "Because I was afraid of him."

Following his indictment on various sex charges, Polanski agreed to a plea deal that spared him prison time (he had spent about 45 days in jail during a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation). But when it seemed that a Superior Court judge might not honor the deal--and sentence Polanski to prison--the director fled the country.

The fugitive director pleaded guilty over 30 years ago to having sex with a 13-year-old girl but fled the US before sentencing - he has been living on the lam ever since.

In her 1977 grand jury testimony, then 13-year-old, then known as Samantha Gailey testified how the director had sex with her after plying her with champagne and a Quaalude at the Los Angeles home of Jack Nicholson.

Gailey, an aspiring model, described how the ordeal began with her posing topless for Polanski at his request. She then describes posing naked for him in a Jacuzzi, allegedly for a  French Vogue photoshoot. Soon the director removed his clothes and got in the Jacuzzi with Samantha.

She testified: “He goes,  ‘Come down here.’

“And I said, ‘No, no. I got to get out.’

“And he goes, ‘No. Come down  here.’”

Samantha tried to break away from Polanski by lying and telling him she had asthma. And as she repeatedly tried to get away from him, and asked him to take her home, he continued his relentless quest to have sex with her.

He followed her into the bedroom where despite Samantha asking Polanski to "keep away" he kissed the 13-year-old.

“He reached over and kissed me. And I was telling him, ‘No,’ you know, ‘keep away.’

The director said he would take her home, but then proceeded to perform a sex act on the 13-year-old.

After that he "started to have intercourse with me." Gailey testified. She also said that Polanski, 43 at the time, "put his (censored) in my butt" after asking her "Would you want me to go in through your back?"

Note: she said "No" and "I need to go home, please take me home" more than once throughout the whole episode.  Not only was it statutory rape, it was forcible rape.  Quite frankly, I'd be ok with the death penalty for forcible rape...  In my opinion, he should be extremely grateful he's not coming back and going straight to the electric chair.
